I was trained before 2025 but plan to sit for the exam in 2026 or later. How do I prepare for the exam?
If your training was completed prior to 2025, we recommend reviewing the updated Content Outline and the NBHWC Content Outline Crosswalk to ensure you are aware of competencies you may not have been trained in. We strongly encourage you to seek additional resources or continuing education to ensure you’re familiar with any new or expanded topics that may appear on your exam.
What are the main differences between the current and updated Content Outlines?

Will the updated Content Outline affect my eligibility to take the exam?
No, your eligibility to take the exam will not change. However, if you were trained prior to 2025 we strongly encourage you to sit for the exam in 2025. You should prepare using the Content Outline that aligns with the year you plan to take the exam.
Can I still use study materials based on the old Content Outline if I’m taking the exam in 2026 or later?
While older study materials may still be helpful, we recommend using resources that align with the updated content outline to ensure you are fully prepared.
